Mental Performance Training
The mind is a muscle that needs to be exercised in order to execute the game plan. Our work levels the playing field for our athletes making it easier to keep performance and excitement in their sport.
The name of our game is perspective, not maximization. We seek to keep athletes engaged in athletics for the long run.

Liz helps athletes work through a number of challenges including the following:
performance anxiety
understanding identity outside of sports
managing stress and burnout
transition periods within sport (ie. injury, new team, new role)
external pressure
internal pressure and perfectionism
motivation and goal setting
other challenges
One-on-one coaching occurs weekly or bi-weekly and is offered both in person and online.
Due to NCAA recruiting restrictions, Liz is limited to working with athletes in K-8th grade. Athletes are not considered a PSA (prospective student-athlete) until the summer entering 9th grade.

Mental performance training adds another level of preparation to competition day. The learned cognitive skills help athletes to manage pressure, improve focus, build resiliency, and grow their confidence. These coping skills also support the post-game phase of competition day where high performers can find themselves hyper-critiquing their play.

Mental training and therapy are two different modalities that share the goal of improving a client’s mental well-being. Therapy involves diagnosis and treatment whereas mental training is goal-oriented, cognitive skill development.

Each session is 50 minutes long and includes a natural evolution of the following:
Check in and status update
Mental skill building
Practicing the new skill
Translating how and when to use the new skill in daily life

Liz Sack uses the the Ecological Model, Systems Theory, and the Biopsychosocial Model from her social work degree to inform her practice. These models support the view that athletes are whole people separate from and intertwined with their sport identities.
